Training and Care

At Chestnut Hill, every rider and horse receives a personalized program designed to help them reach their goals. Whether it’s a child’s first pony lesson, an adult returning to the saddle, or an experienced junior preparing for major medal finals or the jumpers, our philosophy remains the same: excellence built on basics.

Our Training Philosophy

We take a long-term, fundamentals-first approach focused on:

  • A safe, positive, and supportive environment

  • Programs tailored to each horse and rider

  • Clear communication and consistent expectations

  • A focus on fun and a love of the sport

This system develops confident riders in hunters, jumpers, and equitation, while also bringing along young horses—from their first show miles to derby and jumper careers.

Horse Care and Support Team

Under Head Trainer Leylan Swift, our team oversees every aspect of training, management, and horse care. Our experienced grooms work closely with top veterinarians, farriers, and specialists to ensure horses stay healthy, happy, and performing their best. Our assistant trainers keep the horses and students ready for competition with great lessons and years of riding experience.

Indoor Arena

Riding and training continue throughout the year at HJ2 Stables, with access to:

  • A large outdoor arena with ebb and flow footing making it usable year round

  • A fully lit indoor arena

  • Multiple grass and all weather turnout paddocks

Thanks to our dedicated staff of riders and trainers, we are able to offer after school lessons as well as lessons and training rides at home even when part of the team is away at competitions.

Year Round Training

One of the things that sets Chestnut Hill apart is our love of introducing young riders to the sport.

With years of experience, we specialize in matching kids with the right ponies to build confidence, teach strong basics, and support their riding goals. From first lessons to moving up the ranks, our program is thoughtful, structured, and fun.

Just as important, our pony program creates a strong sense of camaraderie among our youngest riders. We love watching kids grow together—developing confidence, responsibility, and lifelong skills through their experiences with horses.
